Burke Hospice Metric Century

Cap off a fun spring weekend with the Burke Hospice Metric Century bike race on Sunday, April 29, 2012! The event will include a challenging metric century (63 miles) and half-metric century (35 mile) bike race. A post-ride lunch, technical t-shirt and chip timing are included.

The ride, sponsored by Cyclewright, begins at 9 AM at the Cyclewright bicycle shop on the Greenway in Morganton (355 Sanford Drive). The courses tour the western part of Burke County along the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, offering scenic views of Lake James, Table Rock, and Shortoff Mountain. The ride is fully supported by SAG wagons, rest stops, fire and rescue, and police support.

Proceeds from the ride will benefit Burke Hospice & Palliative Care. Burke Hospice cares for over 100 patients per day who suffer from serious illnesses like cancer, heart failure, and Alzheimer's. No one is ever turned away for an inability to pay. Fundraisers like the Metric Century are vital to Burke Hospice's patients; since 2008, the organization has provided over $2 million in care without any type of reimbursement. Registration is $35 until April 27, $45 afterward. Online registration with more details and route maps will shortly be available via Active.com. On-site registration is available for this event on Saturday, Apr. 28 from noon-6 PM and and Sunday, Apr. 28 from 7 til 8 AM.
