Director of Psychosocial, Spiritual, and Bereavement Services
Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. is seeking a full-time Director of Psychosocial, Spiritual, and Bereavement Services. This position is classified as salaried exempt, manages Social Workers, Chaplains, and Bereavement staff, and encompasses direct report responsibilities. This position is responsible for preceptorship of new staff in hospice philosophy, support service role, Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) participation, electronic medical record documentation, community resources, and hospice policies and procedures. The position also coordinates and monitors the continuity and quality of care for patients/families transitioning between both the inpatient and home care components of the program and assists or coordinates assistance to Palliative Care patients per referral from the Palliative Care team. This position serves on the hospice IDT and coordinates the delivery of social work, spiritual care, and bereavement services to maximize effectiveness and eliminate duplication with contracted and/or cooperating social services units of hospitals, County Department of Social Services, and other public and private agencies.

The successful candidate will possess compassion and true concern for the care of the dying and their families. Excellent communication and problem solving skills, the ability to understand and promote effective interaction between staff and community members, and the willingness and ability to travel within the hospice service area are other important skills necessary in this position. This position reports to the VP of Clinical Services.

Education/Experience: Master’s Degree in Social Work from a school of social work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Minimum of two years post degree in social work in related field and 5 years healthcare experience. Supervision and hospice experience preferred. Is in good standing with the State of North Carolina to practice as a social worker. Must hold and maintain notarial commission (Notary Public) for the NC Department of the Secretary of State.

Nurse Practitioner (NP)- Burke Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. is seeking a Full Time Nurse Practitioner for varied days and shifts.

This position will initiate palliative care consultations or appropriate hospice treatment plans for patients in all settings, including physical examination, interpretation of health data, prescribing medications in accordance with state law, ordering routine and diagnostic studies, and collaborating with the physician as appropriate. The NP will consult with medical colleagues as needed, communicate about patient care provided, provide written reports as requested, prepare and maintain accurate patient records, charts, and documents to support sound medical practice and reimbursement for services provided. This position will participate on the Interdisciplinary Team and will participate in the medical call rotation.

The successful candidate will possess exceptional clinical skills, compassion, and true concern for the care of those with a life limiting illness. Excellent communication and problem solving skills, the ability to work independently, and the ability to adapt well to change are other important skills necessary in this position. The NP is supervised by the Chief Medical Officer.

Education/Experience: A graduate of a 2-, 3-, or 4-year approved nursing program and an approved Nurse Practitioner Program. Must possess current unrestricted North Carolina RN license, have approval to practice as a Nurse Practitioner by the Board of Medical Examiners and the Board of Nursing, and have hospital privileges. Additionally, the NP is required to achieve hospice and palliative care certification (ACHPN) as soon as qualified. Minimum of 2 years RN or NP home care experience preferred.

PRN Nurses & CNA's

Burke Hospice & Palliative Care is seeking qualified nurses and CNA's to work with our patients on an as-needed basis. Candidates may work in homes, community facilities, or our own Hospice House.

RN Requirements: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred. Current North Carolina Registered Nurse License. Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in the delivery of nursing services in Hospice, Home Health or Hospital Medical Surgical, preferably five (5) years. Exceptional clinical skills, compassion and true concern for the care of the dying and their families. Excellent communication and problem solving skills. Ability to work independently and adapt well to change.

CNA Requirements: NC-approved Certified Nursing Assistant I or II certification, II preferred. Currently on State Home Health Aide Registry as having satisfactorily completed training course and/or competency testing which qualifies him/her to do home health aide work in a Medicare certified hospice. High school graduate or equivalency required. Minimum of one (1) year experience in health care; two (2) years experience preferred.
